a quick home remedy for aching knees

Knee problems crop up from time to time for me. These are generally simple over-use injuries that occur when, say, I ride half my typical weekly mileage in one day. Basically the tissue under & around my patella gets really inflamed and it hurts to move or walk and sometimes just plain hurts all the time.

Usually a *VERY* hot bath will straighten things out entirely for about a half-hour with lingering effects for several hours more. Additionally -- and this is sort of strange -- but a mixture of flax oil and olive oil before bed really seems to work wonders, and I'm not sure why. I have some ideas that could explain it, but .. yeah, it's weird.

Anyway, two or three tablespoons of olive oil and three or four of flax oil before bed. I dump them in a short glass of hempseed milk and stir it up, because drinking oil straight is sort of awful.

This winds up being like 700 calories of straight oil... But good god, I could barely walk yesterday and this morning my knees feel fantastic. Maybe they would have felt fantastic anyway, but these things usually take at least a week to clear up. So, who knows. It's worth trying.

I was hoping that the ground would be covered by a thick layer of slush, that the subways would face inevitable failure, that the city would be shut down, that i could stay under my electric blanket forever and ever and ever. So I was a little bit disappointed when my dreams were interrupted by my alarm clock and the pavement outside my window appeared slightly damp.

Just as well, though. I slept a little late got ready a little slow, and talked myself into biking in today. Always a good decision. So that's what I did.

And then I was at work.

And then I biked back through a light but refreshing mist.

Tomorrow I interview for a production editor job down the street from my current office. I guess I'll wear a suit and a tie and ride the subway. If the stars are aligned in my favor, I'll get the job. If I get the job, I'll find someone to take over the lease on the rat's nest I inhabit and move into a cozy basement apartment. Then I'll build up a dream bike, pay off the few debts I've incurred, buy the drinks I owe to friends, and live happily for a while, until something else comes along ...
